Our Five Rivers Rose is Here!

Posted on Tuesday, 12 June 2012 in Wine

Our Five Rivers Rose' is back! A crowd favorite, our Five Rivers' Rose is a ruby red, deeper body rose' made in the European style. It is made with a blend of St. Vincent and Vidal grapes - giving it a refreshingly tart, slight cranberry taste with just a touch of sweetness.

One of our favorite summer drinks is Sangria and our Rose' makes an excellent Sangria. Here's our recipe.

Five Rivers Rose' Sangria

aka TSW Summer Spritzer

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of TSW Five Rivers Rose'
  • 1 can (11.5 oz) of San Pellegrino limonata or aranciata (sparkling lemon or orange soda) OR substitute 1 cup club soda/sparkling water and 1/3 cup orange or lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup Rose's Sweetened Lime Juice

FRUIT - use any combination or all to your taste & liking:

  • 2-3 slices each of lemon, lime, orange
  • Approximately 1/2 cup each of berries (blackberries, raspberries, & strawberries)
NOTE: (Optionally - mascerate berries in sugar/orange juice (or liquer such as Grand Marnier/ Cointreau / Brandy) for an hour or more or overnight
  • Approximately 1/2 cup each of diced apples & pears
NOTE: Use firm, tart cooking apples such as Braeburn, Pink Lady or Granny Smith

In a large pitcher:

  • Mix the soda, sugar, & lime juice to melt the sugar
  • Add fruit
  • Add box of Rose' wine
  • Add a cup or two of ice
  • Pour & enjoy!

Let us know if you have questions & how it works out for you!

Top Five Things to Do at Decanter Festival

Posted on Wednesday, 18 April 2012 in Festivals

Decanter: A Celebration of Maryland Wine and Racing

This Saturday and Sunday from 12-6 PM sees the return of Decanter. Now in its second year and expanded to two days, this wine festival has a unique setting - the infield at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Rain or shine, you'll be able to sample and buy Maryland wines under a very large tent while watching the horses race right by. And yes, there will be betting stations located in the Decanter tents if you are feeling lucky...

Here's our take on the Top Five Things to Do at Decanter:

1. Bet on the horses. Try your hand on an exacta or trifecta. New to racing/betting? See Pimlico's Racing 101: Beginner's Guide to Pari-mutuel Wagering

2. Try some awesome local and Maryland foods. We are big fans of Grilled Cheese & Co. - especially the Fresco with mozzarella & pesto and the Sweetest Thing with brie, mascarpone & CHOCOLATE! Crab lovers try Sherri's Crab Cakes. Or snack on Cecil County's own Thunder Ridge Kettle Corn.

Finger Lakes International Wine Competition Awards TSW Wines!

Posted on Monday, 09 April 2012 in Wine

Two TSW Wines were awarded medals in the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition. Our 2010 Shiraz was awarded a Silver Medal and our 2010 Reserve Traminette was awarded a Bronze Medal.

Traminette and Shiraz Wines

The FInger Lakes International Wine Competition is the largest and best-known wine competition on the East Coast. Over 3,200 wines were entered from 788 wineries, 22 countries, 5 Canadian Provinces, and all 50 United States.

We are especially proud of these awards. We knew we had some excellent wines this year; it is nice to have it confirmed by an impartial panel. The Finger Lakes competition is not only large, it is discerning.

“This year’s Finger Lakes International Wine Competition has the most diverse international group of judges ever assembled on the East Coast of the U.S. to give the entrants the best possible global palate and global opinion,” said Peter Parts, one of the Event's founders.
